The Photographers Journal

Somedays you forget your camera and you see everything, other days you have your camera and you see nothing.

Fog was abundant and intense this morning then gone by the afternoon. It's absence left a clearness and a void that could not be overlooked. But clarity is nothing without context.

Went for lamb wrapped in pita for lunch. Place with a peninsula of floor to ceiling windows. A nice mid century modern atmosphere. Windows angled out. No lamb, only chicken for the time being. She says it's good, lot's of eye shadow. Android tablet on a two cycle swivel arm, swipe. Chicken ok. Mostly talked about Twinkies.

A man, young in a group of three, hovers over his food and stares blankly at it. Oddly distant. These are not the pictures one should take. I'll come back here next week and figure out how to approach this place.

The trick for places we have been before is to find something new for each and every return. Simple. On summer nights, my daughter and I play this same game with sound. You have to listen closely and be very quiet. Eventually you will hear it. Something you have never heard before, something in the night...
