Cutting the Cord

We finally did it. 4 1/2 years after Q was born, we finally cut the cord.

It wasn't easy. Letting go never is. It was however overdue and it simply had to be done.

After a long and grueling negotiation with several customer service representatives, it was finally over.

Goodbye cable, at least for the summer.

There has been much todo lately over the future of TV. It's dead they say. Wall Street, or as I don't like to say "The Street", is worried about profits. Advertisers are worried about profits. TV execs are worried about profits.

Q is worried she won't be able to make it through the summer without it. She begins every other sentence with:

"So in Fall, when we get TV back..."

Has Q replaced TV with other activities? Yes, and they are wonderful. Kid loves to draw and paint and craft and be a kid. She is doing more of that. She is also using her iPad more, kid loves games. Does she still want to watch TV, absolutely.

I guess the hubbub rests on distribution. Netflix vs Cable. As a consumer... not really concerned about that. Oh and profits, really not concerned about that either.

We have been predicting the death of TV for some time, I can tell you that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Shows like @midnight prove that we prefer to talk about the internet in our TV shows rather than actually have the internet in our shows. Television is a transcendent connection, even my 4 1/2 year old wants, at some point of the day, to put down the interactions and just be led away into another world, body and soul.

And that's exactly why we cut the cord.
